At Knoxville Veterinary Clinic, it’s our goal to provide you and your pet with the same compassionate, quality care that we would expect to receive with our own pets.  We strive to be a trusted partner in your pets’ health care so that they can have as many happy, healthy years with you as possible.

We do this by providing comprehensive veterinary services that include:

  • Fear Free Visits: We work hard to ensure that both you and your pet are comfortable during your visit with us. We utilize low stress handling techniques and work to maintain a low stress environment within our clinic.   • Personalized Care:  We focus on providing high quality medicine and we always place the needs of our patients and clients first.  Your appointments will never feel rushed. We take the time at each visit to complete a thorough exam and ensure that your pet’s needs are thoroughly addressed.

Doctors

Dr. Maggie Wilson

Owner and Veterinarian

Dr. Maggie Wilson (Aleff) was born and raised in Knoxville, Iowa where she first developed her love for animals. She was active in local 4-H and is a former graduate of the Knoxville High School (Class of 2001). Following graduation, she went on to earn first her Bachelor’s Degree, and then her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2009.

Dr. Wilson started her veterinary career at the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic working as an associate for Dr. Craig Burk in 2009. In 2010 she married her husband Jeff, and they moved to Western Iowa where Dr. Wilson continued to practice first mixed animal, and then small animal only medicine while further developing her skills as a practitioner.

In March of 2018, Dr. Wilson and her husband Jeff had the opportunity to move back to Knoxville and purchased the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic from her former mentor, Dr. Craig Burk. They were overjoyed at the opportunity to return to Knoxville.

Professionally, Dr. Wilson has a special interest in internal medicine, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery. She is also a Fear Free Certified Practitioner who takes pride in providing her patients with positive experiences while at the vet’s office.

In her free time, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with her husband Jeff and their 3 children; Collin, Courtney, and Aubrey. Dr. Wilson also has a houseful of pets that her entire family enjoys. These pets include 3 dogs (Izzy Anna, Herman, and Frederick Meatball) and 2 guinea pigs (Strawberry Poppy and Penelope).

Dr. Stephanie Deneke

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Stephanie Deneke graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She joined our practice in the summer of 2019 after relocating to the area with her husband, son and daughter from Central Minnesota where she practiced as a small animal veterinarian. Professionally, she has a special interest in dermatology and cytology.

While away from the office, Dr. Deneke likes to spend time with her family and 2 dogs, - a Pittie Mix named Walter and a Wire-haired Pointing Griffon named Mavis. She also enjoys boating, fishing, watching and playing softball and baseball, watching hockey, and of course, attending ISU games – GO Cyclones!

Cara Readout

Office Manager

Cara (Libby) Readout is a Knoxville native. After graduating from Iowa State University, Cara and her husband John moved to Knoxville to be closer to family. Cara has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from ISU and worked in the Knoxville Community School District for 9 years. After working in the school district, Cara stayed at home with her children for six years. During the summer of 2021, Cara joined our practice as Office Manager.
Cara has had a lifelong love of animals. She was active in 4-H and milked goats and made cheese at Reichert’s Dairy Air for eight years. She will always have animals in her life.
John and Cara live south of Knoxville on an acreage with their three children, dog and three cats. In her free time, Cara enjoys spending time with her family and pets, hiking, baking and working on her property.

Donna Flattery

CVT, Dog Trainer

Donna is a Certified Veterinary Technician who has been with the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic since 1980. Donna graduated from North East Missouri State University with her Certificate in Veterinary Technology in 1980. After graduation, she began working at the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic, which first served both large and small animals. Through the years, the clinic has transformed into a pet exclusive practice.

In 2010, Donna completed an on-line Dog Trainer course and earned her Professional Dog Trainer Certification in 2015. She really enjoys working with owners and their pets to help teams address behavior issues, teach basic training, teach puppy socialization classes and acquire Canine Good Citizen certification. Donna has completed the Fear Free Veterinary Professional certification and Fear Free Professional Dog Trainer certification. Most recently, she completed certification as an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

Donna is married to Jerry Flattery, who is semi-retired. They have three children; Robin lives and teaches High School English in Anamosa, Matt lives in Pleasant Hill and drives a truck for Dr. Pepper, and Brad works at Weiler in Knoxville, Iowa. In June of 2023, Donna and Jerry became Grandparents when Robin and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby girl! Donna also has 1 dog and 2 cats at home. Maddie is a rambunctious black lab with aspirations of becoming a Canine Good Citizen and Felix and Oscar, two senior cat brothers, were gifted to Donna and Jerry by their daughter.

In her free time, Donna enjoys reading, exercising, trying new recipes, training dogs, and spending time with her family and friends.

Amy Senn

Lead RVT

Amy joined our team at KVC in July of 2020. Although she has only been at our clinic a short time, Amy has been working in the veterinary field since 2000 and is a wealth of knowledge. Amy graduated with her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from San Juan College.

Amy’s favorite place to be at the clinic is in the lab behind a microscope, but her hidden talent is taking dental x-rays.

Amy resides in Knoxville with her husband Gene and their 3 children; Willow, Jack, and Emmit. Amy's furry family members include a giant Great Dane named Odin and a lovable cat named Socks. In her free time, Amy enjoys gardening, spending time with her family and attending vintage car shows.

Kayla Ervin

Veterinary Assistant

Kayla joined our team in August of 2022 as a receptionist. While working as a receptionist, Kayla began training as a Veterinary Assistant and was able to quickly transition to this new role. Kayla has an eye for detail and has excelled in this role.

Kayla is currently working full time and attending San Jan College while working towards an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology.

Kayla and her husband Jake reside in Knoxville with their children, Addy, Mason, Bennett and a baby on the way! Kayla and her family love spending time with their Pitbull Athena and 2 cats Charlotte and Snowball.
In her free time, Kayla enjoys reading, spending time with her family and watching her kids play sports.

Abbie Aleff

Veterinary Assistant

Abbie has a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Studio Art from Grand View University. During the summer of 2018, she decided to make an epic career change when she started working as a Veterinary Assistant at Knoxville Veterinary Clinic to follow her other passion in life - helping animals.

As the resident comedian of the clinic, Abbie is usually one to lighten the mood even on the most challenging of days. Her favorite place to be is in with puppy or new kitten appointments, and she is a joy to work with.
Abbie has two fur-babies, a deaf kitty named Blanche and a Yorkshire Terrier named Little Rickie who are both extremely spoiled.

In her free time, Abbie enjoys riding her bike, hiking, fishing, making art, and foraging for mushrooms.

Esther Rice

Veterinary Assistant

Esther joined our team as a Veterinary Assistant in January of 2024 shortly after moving to Iowa. Esther worked as a Veterinary Assistant in Illinois and we quickly saw what a great resource she was going to be for the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic. Esther does a great job of meeting all of our clients and patients needs during their visits and has been a wonderful addition to our team.

In her spare time, Esther loves spending time with her own pet family members. Esther has one dog name Hwin and a cat named Mr. Felicity. Esther also enjoys hiking and traveling with her family and friends.

Emily Dean

Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist

Emily graduated from Knoxville High School in 2023 and soon after, she joined our team as a part-time receptionist. In addition to working part-time, Emily is working towards her Veterinary Technician Degree from Penn Foster. As Emily as progressed with her Veterinary Technician degree, she started training as a Veterinary Assistant. Currently, Emily is working in both positions and she has been an asset as she has a positive impact in both roles.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Caleb, family and friends. Emily and Caleb have 4 fur-babies: a German Shepherd named Tazer, a German Short-haired Pointer named Ivory, and 2 cats named Cheeto and Bean.

Lois Reichert

Receptionist

In July of 2022, Lois Reichert joined our team here at the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic. While many of us in the Knoxville Community got to know Lois and her goats through her own business, Reichert’s Dairy Air, we are so happy Lois joined our team.

Lois has always had a passion for animals and working at the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic was an opportunity for Lois to make her childhood dream of working at a vet clinic come true! Lois has a gift of connecting with people and showing them compassion. Lois enjoys welcoming and assisting each and every one of our clients and patients.

In her spare time, Lois loves traveling to New Zealand to visit her son, Ben, and spending time with her own pet family members. Lois has one dog named Dolly, four cats named Harriet, Thurman, Ruby and Tommy Boy, Kune Kune pigs and Dwarf Nigerian goats.

Amy McLaughlin

Receptionist

In June of 2024, Amy joined our team as a full-time receptionist. Amy is originally from Missouri. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University. Amy has been a wonderful addition to our team. She is always looking for ways to help out and make sure the day runs smoothly for our staff, clients and patients.

Amy and her fiancé, Colton, live in Knoxville with their two dogs, Millie and Sitka. In their free time, you may find Amy, Colton, Millie and Sitka enjoying a ride on their side by side.
